The Smyrna Business Association was formed in the Spring of 1983, by a small group of business persons that were interested in making the Smyrna area a more inviting place in which to live and do business.

Joining together, a concentrated effort was make to improve Smyrna's isolation and image. Working with the Local, County and State governments, our goal to have an underpass or overpass at the railroad tracks at Atlanta Road began again after being dormant for 20 years. On July 11, 1988, the Arthur T. Bacon Memorial Bridge was officially dedicated and this railroad overpass gave direct access to the Smyrna Area. About the same time, the SBA also successfully proposed to have the name of "Windy Hill Road" extended to South Cobb Drive.

On April 4th of 1987, the lighting of South Cobb Drive was dedicated during the Jonquil Spring Festival. . The SBA raised $10,000.00 to present to the City of Smyrna, resulting in the lighting becoming a reality. The lighting of South Cobb Drive to I-285 and North to Atlanta Road is completed along with the widening of Windy Hill Road to Austell Road.

The SBA encourages young people to learn about free enterprise. The SBA, Cumberland Rotary Club and Kennesaw State College sponsor "You and the American Economy Program" for high school students. Also, scholarships are presented annually to Campbell and Osborne high school seniors pursuing higher education. In 1996, the SBA became Partners in Education with Campbell High School.

The fiscal year is ended in June with a banquet along with the presentation of awards and the installation of officers.

By working together, the business community and our elected officials will plan and bring forth projects that will continue to make the Smyrna area a leader in Cobb's business community, and a vibrant, desirable environment in which to work and live
